. For 103 years, Times Square has been the center of worldwide attention on New Year's Eve, ever since the owners of One Times Square began in 1904 to conduct rooftop celebrations to greet the New Year.

. THE EVENT
By approximately 4:00 p.m., the Bow Tie of Times Square (42nd to 47th Sts. between Broadway & 7th Ave.) is fully closed to traffic. Revelers are directed by the NYPD to gather in separate viewing sections. As one section fills up, the revelers are directed by police to the next viewing section.

. 6:00 p.m. to 6:03 p.m. Philips Lighting Company Lights and Raises the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball The celebration begins with the Philips Lighting Company lighting and raising of the New Year’s Eve Ball a top One Times Square.y special pyrotechnic effects atop One Times Square.

6:04 p.m. to 6:24 p.m. Pontiac Garage Stage – Musical Performance by The Bravery The Times Square New Year’s Celebration gets started with a musical performance by The Bravery from the Pontiac Garage Stage atop the setback roof at Two Times Square. A pyro effect draws the attention of the revelers to the Pontiac Garage Stage. The performance concludes with another pyro effect.

6:58 p.m. to 7:01 p.m. Hourly Countdown with Carson Daly As we approach the New Year, Carson Daly will appear on the Countdown Stage to say “Happy New Year”, and lead the Times Square revelers in counting down to the end of each hour as a fifteen second video countdown is displayed on the giant Panasonic screens accompanied by special sound effects.

7:30 p.m. Times Square 2008 Balloons, Pontiac Hats, and Snapple Mittens The Times Square Alliance sanitation crews clad in bright red uniforms begin to distribute tens of thousands of fun handouts to the Times Square revelers for cheering in the New Year. In addition to Times Square 2008 orange balloons tied with gold mylar ribbons; Pontiac provides festive red New Year’s Eve hats, and Snapple provides warm blue mittens.

7:58 p.m. to 8:01 p.m. Hourly Countdown with Ryan Seacrest As we approach the New Year, Ryan Seacrest will appear on the Countdown Stage to say “Happy New Year”, and lead the Times Square revelers in counting down to the end of each hour as a fifteen second video countdown is displayed on the giant Panasonic screens accompanied by special sound effects.

8:05 p.m. to 8:24 p.m. NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly: Musical Performance by Lenny Kravitz Lenny Kravitz performs “Bring It On” and “I’ll Be Waiting” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island.

8:58 p.m. to 9:01 p.m. Hourly Countdown with Cat Deeley As we approach the New Year, Cat Deeley will appear on the Countdown Stage to say “Happy New Year”, and lead the Times Square revelers in counting down to the end of each hour as a fifteen second video countdown is displayed on the giant Panasonic screens accompanied by special sound effects.

9:02 p.m. to 9:12 p.m. Panasonic’s Times Square Sing Along Featuring Jordin Sparks Jordin Sparks leads the annual Panasonic Sing-Along. The Times Square revelers will join Jordin singing the classic song “Rhythm is Gonna Get you”. After the Sing-Along, Jordin will perform her new hit single “Tattoo” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island.

9:17 p.m. to 9:21 p.m. FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live: Musical Performance by Blake Lewis Blake Lewis performs “Break Anotha” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island.

9:30 p.m. to 9:50 p.m. FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live: Musical Performance by Lighthouse Lighthouse performs “The Joke” and “First Time” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island.

9:58 p.m. to 10:01 p.m. Hourly Countdown with Anderson Cooper As we approach the New Year, Anderson Cooper will appear on the Countdown Stage to say “Happy New Year”, and lead the Times Square revelers in counting down to the end of each hour as a fifteen second video countdown is displayed on the giant Panasonic screens accompanied by special sound effects.

10:10 p.m. to 10:16 p.m. ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: Musical Performance by Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus performs on the 1500 Broadway setback roof.

10:18 p.m. to 10:38 p.m. Pontiac Garage Stage – Musical Performance by Kid Rock Kid Rock performs on the Pontiac Garage Stage atop the setback roof at Two Times Square. A pyro effect draws the attention of the revelers to the Pontiac Garage Stage. The performance concludes with another pyro effect.

10:39 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: Musical Performance by Jonas Brothers Jonas Brothers perform on the 1500 Broadway setback roof.

10:49 p.m. to 10:52 p.m. A Musical Performance by The USO Troupe of Metropolitan New York The USO Troupe of Metropolitan New York performs their signature “Service Salute” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island in honor of the men and women of our armed forces. As we celebrate the New Year, we sing out a special message of support and praise for these brave men and women.

10:58 p.m. to 11:01 p.m. Hourly Countdown As we approach the final hour, the Times Square revelers practice counting down as a fifteen second video countdown is displayed on the giant Panasonic screens accompanied by special sound effects.

11:11 p.m. to 11:16 p.m. A Times Square Salute to our Armed Forces The USO Troupe of Metropolitan New York performs their signature “Service Salute” on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island in honor of the men and women of our armed forces. As we celebrate the New Year, we sing out a special message of support and praise for these brave men and women.

11:18 p.m. to 11:26 p.m. Pontiac Garage Stage – Musical Performance by Velvet Revolver Velvet Revolver performs on the Pontiac Garage Stage atop the setback roof at Two Times Square. A pyro effect draws the attention of the revelers to the Pontiac Garage Stage. The performance concludes with another pyro effect.

11:40 p.m. to 11:48 p.m. ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: Musical Performance by Carrie Underwood Carrie Underwood performs a hit medley on the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island.

11:50 p.m. to 11:55 p.m. Pontiac Garage Stage – Musical Performance by Velvet Revolver Velvet Revolver performs on the Pontiac Garage Stage atop the setback roof at Two Times Square. A pyro effect draws the attention of the revelers to the Pontiac Garage Stage. The performance concludes with another pyro effect.

11:59 p.m. The Sixty-Second Countdown The Times Square 2008 Special Guest and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg push the Waterford crystal button that signals the descent of the New Year’s Eve Ball, and lead the final sixty-second countdown to the New Year atop the Countdown Stage at Duffy Island, the center island on Broadway between 46th and 47th Streets. The New 100th Anniversary Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball The lighted Ball descends 77 feet in sixty seconds. The Ball is a geodesic sphere, six feet in diameter, weighing approximately 1,415 pounds. The Ball is covered with 672 Waterford crystal triangles and lit by 9,576 Philips Luxeon LED’s.

12:00 a.m. -- New Year's Day 2008 Sign At the stroke of Midnight, the lights on the New Year’s Eve Ball are turned off as the numerals of the New Year “2008” burst to life shining high above Times Square. Times Square Confetti Release and Pyrotechnic Effects The world-famous New Year's Eve confetti is released from the rooftops of buildings throughout Times Square creating a celebratory blizzard of colorful confetti as revelers welcome the New Year accompanied by colorful pyrotechnic effects. 12:15 a.m. End of Show
